Cyber Harassment of Akshay Kumar’s Daughter: Maharashtra Cyber Department Makes First Arrest in Gaming Platform Case
Maharashtra Cyber Department has made its first arrest in the cyber harassment case involving Akshay Kumar’s 13-year-old daughter on an online gaming platform. The case highlights rising digital threats, child safety concerns, and the urgent need for cyber awareness education in schools and online environments.
The incident first came to public attention in October last year when Akshay Kumar recounted the disturbing experience during the inaugural ceremony of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 at the State Police Headquarters in Mumbai. He detailed how his daughter was engaged in an online video game that allowed interaction with unknown players.
According to Kumar, the interaction initially appeared normal, with the unknown user sending polite messages such as “Thank you, that was great” and “You are doing so good.” The conversation then progressed to a question about her location. Upon responding that she was from Mumbai, the exchange briefly returned to normal gaming interaction, with continued polite remarks and encouragement.
However, the situation escalated when the player inquired about her gender. After she responded that she was female, the individual allegedly sent an inappropriate message requesting a nude photograph. Kumar stated that his daughter immediately exited the game and informed her mother, demonstrating awareness and prompt action in response to the incident.
The actor highlighted the broader risks faced by children in digital environments, stating that such incidents often serve as the starting point for more serious cyber crimes, including extortion and psychological exploitation. He also referred to multiple cases of suicide linked to online harassment and emphasized the urgent need for cyber safety education. Kumar appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging the introduction of weekly cyber awareness classes in schools to help children navigate the rapidly evolving digital landscape. He stated that cyber crime is growing at a pace that, in many cases, surpasses traditional street crime.
Following his disclosure, the Cyber Cell initiated a detailed investigation. Through technical analysis and digital tracking methods, authorities identified and apprehended the accused. The individual is currently being interrogated to determine whether similar misconduct has been committed against other minors.
The incident was later highlighted in a cyber awareness session conducted at a college in Mumbai. The session focused on educating students about online safety, cyber fraud prevention, secure social media usage, phishing threats, and cyber bullying, reinforcing the importance of vigilance in the digital world.
The arrest underscores the increasing challenges of ensuring child safety in online gaming environments and highlights the critical role of cyber law enforcement agencies in addressing emerging digital threats.
